South Florida doctors, hospitals and clinics say now is the time to get ready for the 2019-20 flu season, which could be one of the worst.
In Australia, which experiences winter before the United States and tends to be a predictor, the country just had the worst flu season in its history. The confirmed 272,146 cases are more than four times as many as the year before.
In the U.S., two people already have died this year from the flu in California, and high-profile celebrities like Oprah Winfrey have been hospitalized with pneumonia, which can develop from the flu.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially counts Oct. 1 as the first day of flu season in the U.S. and is urging people to get their vaccines as soon as possible.
